Discharges in liquids are very efficient to synthesize nanoparticles by electrode erosion. This simple process is only appearance. Mechanisms responsible for the production of several depending on choice parameters. They determine size distributions, shapes, composition, and defects produced particles. also control their possible assembly into more complex structures. article describes basic physics nanoparticles’ synthesis discharges using electrodes gives a summary research efforts that have been devoted understanding this process. A special attention paid thermodynamics these systems driven at or close local equilibrium. Although complete picture not available yet, huge progress has made offers new capabilities better kinds processes. Finally, among important challenges still tackle, possibility forming nanoalloys from immiscible elements achieving unimodal monodisperse distributions questioned current mastery reached field.
